Last week’s email from Sorella Hyatt

This week has been filled with things. I usually wake up at 6:30 every morning and get ready and then we have breakfast. Then we go to the gym for an hour. After that we go somewhere quiet to do personal study which is studying anything in the scriptures and getting a better knowledge of our savior. Then I do language study where I study the Italian language. After that we have lunch and then we have class from 1:30 until 4:30 and we usually are learning the language and grammar and preparing with our companions to teach a lesson. At 5:30 we go to dinner so after class I usually study some more in the scriptures before dinner or I go check the mail. After dinner we go to class again from 6:15 until 9:20 and the teacher studies scriptures with us and teaches us how to teach others as a missionary. And usually my companions and I get a person to teach and we have to do it all in Italian which can be difficult at times. After we teach the person then our teacher gives us feedback about how well we did in our lessons and how the language is. Once we are done with class we go back to our residence and get ready for bed. We have to go to bed at 10:30. I’m always tired though haha

On Christmas Eve we only had 3 hours of class and then we had very good speakers testify of the saviors birth. We watched a clip from the Bible about the saviors birth. We did a lot of singing for Christmas. At night the girls in my room and I did face masks, painted our nails, and read Christ’s birth in the Bible together.
On Christmas Day everyone was dressed very nice in Green, red and white. Everyone was so happy. We didn’t have any classes. We watched part of the atonement of Jesus Christ. We watched “ Its a wonderful life” and we watched “a Christmas carol” the old version. Then one of the 12 apostles, Elder Bednar, came to speak to us. He taught about the importance of Christ and why Christmas is truly celebrated, he spoke about his death and resurrection. It was a very good talk. I then got to skype my family for 30 minutes which is the best present I have ever received. To finish the night David Archuletta came and sang beautiful Christmas songs and I even got to meet him and shake his hand. It was so cool.

After Christmas we returned to our regular schedule

A Christmas message from Sorella Hyatt

Hello guys! I hope you guys are having a great Christmas season. I am doing very well, I have been learning a lot about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I would like to share with you guys a message about Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and what’s really cool about it is that it talks about people that were here in the Americas before Christ and after Christ. Throughout the Book of Mormon there are prophets just like the ones in the Old Testament that had preached about the coming of Christ to the people. In particularly in the Book of a Mormon Helaman chapter 14 it talks about a prophet sent from God to tell the people about the coming of Christ.

And behold, he said unto them: Behold, I give unto you a sign; for five years more cometh, and behold, then cometh the Son of God to redeem all those who shall believe on his name.
3 And behold, this will I give unto you for a sign at the time of his coming; for behold, there shall be great lights in heaven, insomuch that in the night before he cometh there shall be no darkness, insomuch that it shall appear unto man as if it was day.
4 Therefore, there shall be one day and a night and a day, as if it were one day and there were no night; and this shall be unto you for a sign; for ye shall know of the rising of the sun and also of its setting; therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall be two days and a night; nevertheless the night shall not be darkened; and it shall be the night before he is born.
5 And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you.
6 And behold this is not all, there shall be many signs and wonders in heaven.
7 And it shall come to pass that ye shall all be amazed, and wonder, insomuch that ye shall fall to the earth.
8 And it shall come to pass that whosoever shall believe on the Son of God, the same shall have everlasting life.
9 And behold, thus hath the Lord commanded me, by his angel, that I should come and tell this thing unto you; yea, he hath commanded that I should prophesy these things unto you; yea, he hath said unto me: Cry unto this people, repent and prepare the way of the Lord.
11 And ye shall hear my words, for, for this intent have I come up upon the walls of this city, that ye might hear and know of the judgments of God which do await you because of your iniquities, and also that ye might know the conditions of repentance;
12 And also that ye might know of the coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father of heaven and of earth, the Creator of all things from the beginning; and that ye might know of the signs of his coming, to the intent that ye might believe on his name.
13 And if ye believe on his name ye will repent of all your sins, that thereby ye may have a remission of them through his merits.
14 And behold, again, another sign I give unto you, yea, a sign of his death.
15 For behold, he surely must die that salvation may come; yea, it behooveth him and becometh expedient that he dieth, to bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, that thereby men may be brought into the presence of the Lord.
16 Yea, behold, this death bringeth to pass the resurrection, and redeemeth all mankind from the first death--that spiritual death; for all mankind, by the fall of Adam being cut off from the presence of the Lord, are considered as dead, both as to things temporal and to things spiritual.

After the prophet Samuel spoke these words some of the wicked people were angry with him but there were some who believed in his words. 5 years later the people remembered what Samuel the prophet said and the wicked people had conspired to kill the believers of the coming of Christ unless the sign of the star was shone. So in 3Nephi chapter 1 it talks about this.

Now it came to pass that there was a day set apart by the unbelievers, that all those who believed in those traditions should be put to death except the sign should come to pass, which had been given by Samuel the prophet.
10 Now it came to pass that when Nephi, the son of Nephi, saw this wickedness of his people, his heart was exceedingly sorrowful.
11 And it came to pass that he went out and bowed himself down upon the earth, and cried mightily to his God in behalf of his people, yea, those who were about to be destroyed because of their faith in the tradition of their fathers.
12 And it came to pass that he cried mightily unto the Lord all that day; and behold, the voice of the Lord came unto him, saying:
13 Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfil all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets.
14 Behold, I come unto my own, to fulfil all things which I have made known unto the children of men from the foundation of the world, and to do the will, both of the Father and of the Son--of the Father because of me, and of the Son because of my flesh. And behold, the time is at hand, and this night shall the sign be given.

So this other prophet was very discouraged but asked the Lord God and He said he would show them a sign and later in this same chapter it reads

15 And it came to pass that the words which came unto Nephi were fulfilled, according as they had been spoken; for behold, at the going down of the sun there was no darkness; and the people began to be astonished because there was no darkness when the night came.
16 And there were many, who had not believed the words of the prophets, who fell to the earth and became as if they were dead, for they knew that the great plan of destruction which they had laid for those who believed in the words of the prophets had been frustrated; for the sign which had been given was already at hand.
17 And they began to know that the Son of God must shortly appear; yea, in fine, all the people upon the face of the whole earth from the west to the east, both in the land north and in the land south, were so exceedingly astonished that they fell to the earth.
18 For they knew that the prophets had testified of these things for many years, and that the sign which had been given was already at hand; and they began to fear because of their iniquity and their unbelief.
19 And it came to pass that there was no darkness in all that night, but it was as light as though it was mid-day. And it came to pass that the sun did rise in the morning again, according to its proper order; and they knew that it was the day that the Lord should be born, because of the sign which had been given.
21 And it came to pass also that a new star did appear, according to the word.

I love this because they saw the star that was shining above the Lord Jesus Christ that was in Jerusalem and what saved the believers from being killed was the sign that was Christ was born. I love the story of our Savior’s birth. The Book Of Mormon truly testifies of Christ and that the Bible is true.

I know that Jesus Christ is our Lord and savior and that He died for all us. I know that He loves each and everyone of His precious children and He all wants us to return to live with Him!
I hope you all remember what Christmas is truly about and why Christ came into the world. I hope you all can share the beautiful message of Jesus Christ. Have a very merry Christmas.

Week 1 - Missionary Training Center

Today is my P-day. The life here is soooooo different I am confused
how I feel about it. I am in a trio companionship so I have two
companions. Sorella Waddell is 21 years. Sorella Madsen she is almost 20 years old so I am the youngest and they call me the baby. I am the senior companion and was made one yesterday but it will change before we leave the MTC, this is to train us.

I’m in a room with my 2 companions and two girls going to Milan. I am
in a trio because my companions and I are the first girls and only in
the MTC to go to the visitors center. When we introduce ourselves we
are always instructed to say Rome Italy temple visitors center since
we get different training and our missions is different.

My zone leaders are Portuguese speakers. My branch president is
Brazilian and they all know I’m half Brazilian and they like to speak
to me in Portuguese. I’m so amazed at how amazing my Portuguese is but
I feel so bad that I will not be in a Portuguese speaking mission.
Portuguese, when I speak to people here, has become to be like English
and I get sad that I honestly won’t be able to speak it, it’s so easy
for me.
Italian is actually kind of difficult. No one in my district
can speak Italian but I’m the only one that can understand everything
that Fratello Harbin is saying, he is our teacher. The only thing is, I
can’t pronounce anything right because of the Portuguese in my head.
The Americans have a better advantage because they don’t know another
language. I have to train my tongue in a different way and I HAVE to
have an accent when I speak or it’s completely wrong. I’m trying to
memorize the things I’ve been learning. Fratello Harbin told us not to
study in our rooms, but I’m going to study every chance I get because
I need to learn. One thing in Italian I’m amazing at is distinguishing
female and male because of the Portuguese, I am the only one that can
do that well and know why words have to have an I at the end or an e
at the end.

Today I’m going to devote my time to studying I need to study all this
material to be a good missionary.
Love you guys ðŸ’•
